Federal District Judge Blocks Oklahoma Law Prohibiting Sharia In State Courts; Other Legal News.

A federal district judge in Oklahoma issued a permanent injunction blocking the state from implementing a recently passed law that prohibits Oklahoma courts from citing to or relying on Sharia (Islamic law) in deciding cases.  Muneer Awad v. Paul Ziriax, et al. (Nov. 29, 2010). (WSJ Law Blog)

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously that a plaintiff who sues a city for civil rights violations under federal law must show that the violations were the result of a policy or custom of the city (rather than the unauthorized conduct of a city employee) to obtain any relief against the city, including injunctive and declaratory relief.  Los Angeles County v.
